MUTUAL SELF-HELP HOUSING

The Arlington Community Development Corporation is sponsoring a Mutual Self-Help Housing Program that provides eligible participants with the opportunity to build themselves new homes by contributing part of the labor necessary for the job in exchange for "sweat equity" in the property.

How do participants become eligible?
Contact Randy Jencks, President of the Arlington Community Development Corporation at (605) 203-0411 for initial eligibility requirements.

What are the benefits to building a home?
Participants will:

  • be the owners of brand-new homes built by themselves and their neighbors.
  • earn equity by contributing labor. This equity could total as much as $30,000.
  • learn valuable new skills that can be used to do more work on their homes or that can be used to increase employment opportunities.
  • fulfill the dream of millions of Americans - knowing the pride of owning a home.
  • not have to pay closing costs or have a down payment for the home.

NEW CONSTRUCTION

If you’re interested in new construction, Arlington is the perfect place to build your dream home. Contact Tim Holzer at (605) 203-0995 for information on lots available in the new Johnson Addition! The development of Johnson Addition was created to accommodate the growing need for housing in Arlington.

Johnson Addition is located as close as one block from the school on one end and one block from the city park and swimming pool on the other. Roads and utilities are in place for all lots and we have contractors ready and willing to start building your new home. Click here for a list of area contractors.
